Martin Emmerich
Biography
Martin Emmerich (*1986) received his musical foundation from Jorge Sutil of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2005 to 2011 he studied with Prof. Josef Rissin at the University of Music Karlsruhe. Having passed his "Diplom" with honours he is now member of the master class of Prof. Albrecht Breuninger. His chamber music tutors are Prof. Jörg-Wolfgang Jahn, Prof. Michael Uhde and Prof. Saule Tatubaeva.
To broaden his expertise in contemporary music and ensemble playing, Martin Emmerich attended as a full grantee the chamber music academy Jeunesse moderne of the Jeunesses musicales, as well as the chamber music academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the Zermatt Festival. Further courses brought him together with the Alban-Berg-Quartett and the Fauré Quartett. He founded several successful chamber-music formations, among them the Tantrii-Quartett, which represented the university in the Mendelssohn Chamber Music Competition in Berlin in 2008. In May 2009 he joined forces and musical talent with pianist Fabian Wankmüller and cellist Heiner Reich in a piano trio formation. With the Aramis Trio he has already won several national and international competitions. The Trio's performances always meet with an enthusiastic reception. Both as a soloist and in chamber music formations he has performed in many European cities, among them Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Munich and Salzburg as well as in Kasachstan, Japan, China und South Korea.
Martin Emmerich has won several first prizes in the national music competition Jugend musiziert both in solo and chamber-music formations. In March 2007 he was accepted as a grantee of the YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now foundation together with pianist Fabian Wankmüller. He has received several grants of the Freundeskreises of the HfM Karlsruhe and was awarded the Peter-Klaus scholarship for outstanding artistic achievement in 2010. In 2011 he was the first student at the HfM Karlsruhe to be awarded a Deutschlandstipendium.
Martin Emmerich is equally passionate about orchestral music: "There is no other group of musicians or instruments that is capable of producing such richness and variety." As leader in the Bayerischen Landesjugendorchesters, the Bundesjugendorchester, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the European Union Youth Orchestra he has played under such noted conducters as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Bernhard Haitink und Sir John Elliot Gardiner. On his 18. birthday he performed as grantee of the first Detmold Summer Academy as leader under Kurt Masur. In January 2011 Martin Emmerich was appointed head of orchestra at the Landestheater Coburg.
In summer 2007 Martin Emmerich was tutor for music theory at the University of Music Karlsruhe and started teaching as violin mentor for teacher training candidates. He was a member of the university's senate from 2008 to 2010.
Martin Emmerich plays a violin by Christian Erichsson. His musical productivity is documented in CD recordings with the SWR and WDR.
